Drawing day - Bleach and ink

Bleach and ink drawing day. I really enjoyed this as the outcome of adding the ink brought a new layer of detail to my work. Which i would like to bring in to knit and weave in my textile world of Construct.

This inspired me to look at journeys and links we can create and find.

I found this work be Alice Keyon inspirational and love how detailed and flowing her work is.

Measuring and Mapping

At the start of my sampling unit I started researching data. I found the concept of recording data around me and the data I caused a challenging task. I keep in mind themes like time, movement, space, recording, journeys and connections.
I choose to visit Manchester City Art Gallery where i view all the exhibitions including the Grayson Perry Exhibition which I found interesting. I recorded my journey from the minute I left my front door to the moment i returned, recording what I saw, what i found interesting and what I found inspirational. I found that I was more interested in repeated items and shapes, especially if there were metallic and technological objects. I also found it personally interesting in learning how i as an individual walk around a art gallery.

Evaluation of Origins unit

At the start of the Origins unit and Mixed Media i was unsure how well suited I would be to a more product basic project. However i have found I am really inspired but it and how and what 3D effects I can create.
     I do feel i have been able to create and develop a connection better my research and practice however I have found not working towards an outcome difficult at times. However this has made me focus on researching and developing sample, by pushing them further. I particularly enjoyed starting with the 100 line drawing as i feel this enabled me to loosen up and find my drawing style and technique again, in layering and experimenting.
   Discovery has been a main focus in this textile worlds, as i have found that i really enjoy and feel inspired by using illustrator and the laser cutter. I feel the outcome has a very clean, multiple and minimalistic style that is a general theme through out my style and work.
    Mixed Media had also helped me realise that I am very interested in Fashion Textiles and Body Adornment. As i have been looking at artistes and designers such as, Alba Prat.
   It is very free with the use of material, I have enjoyed this freedom and seeing what can be created with simple everyday objects.
   I have found that I am good with my time management for booking and working towards workshops and i do feel i am ok at time management during independent study however sometime there are distractions at home so it is better to work in the studio space. Therefore i have learnt for the next unit to not let the home environment distract me from  my work. Also I feel I need to produce more sample instead of thinking about the concept and where my work can or could go.

Finding form from lazer cut shapes. I am inspired but the geometric structures formed here. I want to see how these could be applied.

tutorial Tuesday 19th November

Todays tutorial has helped me to focus on making back to paper forms and finding forms. That can help me focus on an possible outcome. I also found out that I really enjoy Fashion Textile and body adornment and would like to look further in to that.

Tutorial Tuesday 12th

Todays Tutorial has helped me to push my 100 line drawings further and include layering in my work. In addition to do more research into artists and designers to help develop my sampling work. Also to continue to work and research for ideas and concepts.

Laser cut take 2

After really enjoying laser cutting i decided to try a repeat pattern a larger scale and then see how i could apply this to an garment.

Wood laser cut

Enlarged my laser cut design and used a different material, Wood. I think this worked well on the wood how ever i think it would be better back to it original scale and then on multiple.

Alba Prat

I am really inspired but Alba Prat's work. From the neutral colour scheme to the shaped created. It would be interesting to see how i could use my laser cut samples to create a garment.

Shapes can create beautiful forms. 

For lazer cutting I developed simple shapes from drawing of 3D paper structures I made into a detailed patterns that I feel can be used to create an interesting fabric for a garment, wall hanging or wallpaper.

Stories

How ordinary objects can create a story or stories that intrigue and encourage ideas and concepts. This drawing involves creating an image ever 5 minutes from my surroundings.

Illustrator Designs

My first Laser cut designs on illustrator. I developed these designs from looking at paper shapes. It will be interesting to see if these work in the Laser cutter and what material create the best outcome.

Lumps and Bumps

Lumps and bumps was interesting, I enjoyed learning a new pattern cutting technique and what this could be applied to.

It would be interesting to look at how I could change the bodies silhouette, by adding the 3D square shapes on repeat. 

Shoe Drawing day

I found lisa Milroy's shoe drawing really inspirational. I like her choice of colour and perspective as this was especially important for this drawing day.

Finding Form Garment

How i could apply this to a garment.

Colour Theory

Colour theory created an interesting drawing task,even though I have previously colour theory, it was useful to see how Designer Gouache works and what effects it can create. As I feel that understanding colour is vital in textile design.

Paper finding form

I developed these shapes on repeat and looked at the shadow and different arrangements to draw from. I particularly enjoyed this and want to look at how i could transfer this to body adorment

Pattern

These drawings were created by experimenting with different mark making tool and my own handmade tools from found objects. The main focus of these drawings was to look at different interesting and detailed shapes and patterns from around the city.
